The Real Situation

North Frontenac is tourism-dependent, surrounded by Crown land, and underserved by provincial investment in infrastructure and connectivity. Local businesses operate without reliable internet in parts of the township. Young families can't afford to stay. People who want to downsize can't find appropriate housing locally.

At the same time, our trails, lakes, Shield landscape, and rural character are genuine economic assets things people drive hours to experience. We don't need to become something we're not. We need to invest in what we already are.

My Position

Economic development in North Frontenac has to start with what we've actually got going building on the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, the 2025 Asset Management Plan, and the good work already done on housing and economic development. No point reinventing the wheel.

I'll push for broadband expansion through federal and provincial partnerships, Community Improvement Plan funding to spruce up hamlet areas, and a community voice on major projects including any future proposals like battery storage or energy installations. Residents deserve a say before something is built next to their property.

Specific Commitments

• 1Partner with federal and provincial programs to expand high-speed internet and cell service to Plevna, Ompah, Snow Road, and underserved areas.
• 2Activate Community Improvement Plan funding to support small businesses and improve hamlet areas Plevna, Cloyne, Ompah, Snow Road, and Ardoch.
• 3Support and expand community events like Summerfest and the Back Roads Studio Tour that bring visitors and revenue into the township.
• 4Ensure residents have a genuine say including a vote where appropriate on any major energy or development project proposed for the township.
• 5Explore community benefit agreements for any significant development, ensuring North Frontenac residents see direct economic return.
• 6Work with neighbouring municipalities on shared rural economic development strategies because our challenges don't stop at the township line.
